Are you looking for a practical yet luxurious personal campervan? There has never been a better time to buy a van, with campsites re-opening from 4th July (England) and staycations forecast for months to come. This VW Crafter has been converted to a high standard by me for all my adventures. The van features a unique layout and is capable of seating and sleeping 3 adults (one on the floor) and can transport all your adventure kit with ease.
The front seats are supplied with tailored waterproof covers so no worries about getting the seats dirty. Surfing? I have had 3 longboards and 3 shortboards in the van at once due to the neat trapdoor-style table, allowing approx. 11.5ft of loading length. Cycling? I’ve also comfortably had 3 bikes in the garage area of the van (front wheels off) with a fourth probably possible! The garage area is fully waterproofed and wipe-clean so no worries of wet, muddy gear ruining the experience. There is also a hosepipe fitted to the rear of the van to hose down anything particularly dirty before packing it away. I can recommend the Worx cordless pressure washer which works great with the hosepipe.
For anything too big for inside the van, the full-length rhino roof rack can be used, just don’t wallop the solar panel! The dining area seats two, while the bed height allows many more to sit upright in the bed; great for socialising. There is a 24” TV with aerial and a built in DVD player for your entertainment needs, with a choice of different lighting to suit your mood. A double gas hob and a full-size sink are mounted in the solid oak worktop, with an aluminium heat guard and tiled splash back. The van features a fridge and a plethora of storage space throughout. There is even a stealthily stored portable toilet in the van. As mentioned, the table folds up to give a nice seating area for eating and playing games.
The van is powered by solar power, split charge and all electricity is stored in the 130aH battery. There is sufficient space in the battery box to house another battery, but I simply haven’t found the need. Throughout the van, both front and rear, are multiple charging points for your various devices. There is a 1000W pure sine inverter with outlets both front and rear and remote switching for power-hungry appliances and devices. There’s no need to be put off by the complexity, as included with the van is an information pack which details all the things you need to know to operate the van safely. Also don’t be put off by driving a vehicle so large, it has reverse parking sensors and blind spot mirrors.
The van is fully insulated throughout with PIR board in the walls and ceiling, with XPS in the floor. The heated flooring takes the chill off on the colder nights. The van has been weighed and has a gas-safe certificate. There is a carbon monoxide alarm and two fire alarms in the van, along with a fire blanket. The van itself has approximately 136k miles and has excellent service history documented throughout its life. It has the sought after (and icy cold) air conditioning fitted, and it comes with MOT until January 2021. The 2.5 engine is renowned as being very reliable, with only DPF and injector issues. The DPF has been removed and the vehicle remapped to accommodate this, and all 5 injectors have recently been removed and tested, with just one being replaced so it is good to go for many years to come. The paintwork reflects a vehicle of its age but is generally good. The only possible negative is that the steering solenoid is a little weak so takes a firm wiggle of the wheel when inserting the key. As it is such a minor niggle, I never got this replaced as it requires coding to the ECU.
I’m incredibly gutted to be selling this van so soon, however I’m officially becoming an adult now and need to buy a house. Please don’t hesitate to ask me any questions. Viewings must be done to meet COVID requirements as I live with a vulnerable person. Happy to meet at the coach/train station if you’re travelling from afar.
